Fair recruitment: why candidates should never pay a placement fee
This is not legal advice.
Candidates never pay a fee. Not for registration, not for an interview, not for placement, not for preparing the trip. The employer pays.
In Austria the principle sits in § 5 of the Labour Market Promotion Act (Arbeitsmarktförderungsgesetz): placement is free of charge for jobseekers. Narrow exceptions exist for artists and athletes. Those exceptions do not apply to the trades we support. Anyone who asks for money in the name of Afrika-Consult is not acting for us.
Report it to info@afrika-consult.com or on WhatsApp at +43 699 183 082 72. Say who asked, on which channel, and whether any money has already moved. We usually reply within 2 working days.
Fair recruitment is also about data. Your CV is processed only with consent, is not stored at a public address, and is kept until placement plus at most 6 months. You can ask for earlier deletion at any time. Sharing with a named partner employer needs a second consent.
And it is about the route. Licensed partners in Kenya are registered with the National Employment Authority. Licensed partners in Austria handle placement while our own trade is not registered. We say that openly, instead of pretending the authorisation is already there.
The International Labour Organization describes fair recruitment in its own work. A starting point is ilo.org. We do not reproduce their text here.
If you want a path to Austria, submit your profile. If you are hiring, the cost sits with you, and the checklist says what to expect.
