Hiring from Africa

3 gaps where Europe’s labour shortage meets Africa’s talent

The headline some people expect talks about “Europe”. On this site the country is Austria. We do not describe a wider market, and we do not use figures we cannot cite.

Gap 1. The role is open, the brief is not

A hotel or a workshop knows it is short of people. It often cannot yet say which shift, which German level and which papers the role really needs. Until that is written down, a search wastes everyone’s time. The first step is a needs analysis, not a stack of CVs.

Gap 2. The person is qualified, the paper trail is slow

Someone in Kenya can do the work. The employer in Austria still needs documents that an authority can read: qualification, experience, identity, a concrete job offer. Collecting them takes months. Typically 6–9 months from a search agreement to a start date. That is a guide, not a promise. Recognition of a qualification, where the law requires it, is a separate official step.

Gap 3. Arrival is treated as an afterthought

A permit is not a first day at work. Housing, address registration, a bank account and a team that knows how to welcome someone are part of the hire. The employer pays for that practical support. Candidates never pay a fee. Check-ins at months 1, 3 and 6 are there because the first half-year is when a hire either settles or does not.

We close these gaps in cooperation with licensed partners. We do not close them by promising speed.

The employer checklist walks through the same points: checklist.
